Project Summary:

This project addresses the problem that many fisheries monitoring programs have when faced with the need to process the bulk raw field data collected or being collected by scientific on-board observers.  Often, there is a lot of information, sometimes not stored in the same media, which needs to be processed, transformed and formatted in order to be ready to proceed with the required analysis.  Our project will provide a tool (SIPO) that will let any fisheries data holder to be ready to practice marine EBM.

SIPO will help in transforming the bulk raw field data into knowledge, and will be applied in the beginning of fisheries EBM processes, starting with the data collection.  Also, the methods of fisheries data storage and management will be improved, assuring the data consistency and integrity.  SIPO will allow a straight and easy transformation of bulk raw field data into knowledge of pelagic species life history, stock assessments, marine fisheries dynamics and its wide assorted impacts to pelagic ecosystems.  This knowledge will then be ready to serve as input for follow-on tools that integrate it together with other kinds of knowledge.
